Puppies in this class are 8 to 16 weeks old.

Give your puppy the best start to life and learning using humane, up-to-date methodology and positive reinforcement techniques.

Building a relationship and teaching behaviour with an understanding of how dogs learn sets you up for success. After all, training your puppy should be fun and enjoyable!

Dogs are individuals and each one is different. We have activities introducing them to foundation behaviours such as “Sit,” “Down,” and “Stay.”  Settling, leash handling, walking and recall are also covered in this five week program.

There will be other subjects covered such as teaching your puppy independence and safety, as well as:

• Understanding how puppies learn and communicate.

• Learning dog body language

• Understanding the world from the puppy point of view

• Polite play styles.

• Settling how to teach you puppy to self-regulate.

• Other puppy topics.

All puppies that join this class have an incomplete vaccination status.  (I hear your question? “But my puppy is not vaccinated”).

Most puppies will have had a vaccination by 6 weeks of age and proof of this must be provided from a vet practice or breeder in your first session.

All precautions are taken to limit the risks of illness. You are encouraged to start as soon as possible (from 8 weeks) to help your puppy in this critical socialisation period.

We encourage you to attend a class before you start introducing your puppy to your friends’ dogs. This gives you the knowledge and skills to manage dog-to-dog interactions with positive outcomes. Negative experiences at this age can have long term effects.

Homework : setting small sessions to help between classes at home and building the bond and trust between you.

Handouts will be provided in each session with homework to practice between classes.

As a member of this program, you will also be invited to a private Facebook group where short video guides are accessible.

Once you’ve graduated from Puppy Pre-School, you can continue on with Puppy School - Behaviour Training, the next five-class program where focused behaviour training begins.
