How long will it take to train my dog?

How long is a piece of string?

Like everything, you need to identify your goals. What does success look like in week, a month, a year and 5 years time? Create that picture in your mind - set that end goal and work from there.

Training should be fun - short - consistent and planned out. Think about when you had to learn something new like driving a car. It doesn’t take long to work out how to start the car and go forward and stop, but it takes time practice and repetitive lessons to become good at it. Even then it takes weeks months and years to get that fully qualified license.

Some people learn quickly and practice more, some take their time and don’t practice much. They may pick up some bad habits. Not the end of the world but harder to break bad habits and relearn better ones. It’s the same for our dogs. Patience and regular practice doing the right way helps get there, so be kind to yourself and your dog. If you make it too hard, too soon they'll give up. So set your dog up to succeed - help them, show them, reward them and enjoy them. Work together in your home that’s where all learning should start.

If I can help you reach your end goal I’d love to hear from you.

Positive Reinforcement Training is scientifically proven to work. It takes time effort and commitment but importantly it doesn't have to be a chore. I can explain how it is possible to implement a training plan simply by being with your dog, talking to them and rewarding good behaviour.

Good luck!
